Atlas of the Human Journey - The Genographic Project

Atlas of the Human Journey - The Genographic Project

Now this is pretty cool. You give National Geographic a cheek swab and $100 to tell you how your ancestry descended from Africa. This is clearly not interesting to anyone that lives in Africa, but for the rest of us– it’s pretty badass.

Once you sign up, they’ll post your DNA and genographic search results online for your viewing. It’ll not only tell you what routes they left Africa through but also approximately when it occurred as well.

that’s amazing, and kind of scary.

how have they proven the accuracy of their DNA tracing?

and I would expect something like this out of a laboratory/research institute, not a geographic magazine…

Genographic is a word that mixes genealogy and geography together…. invented word as of two years or so ago…. or a month to the public world. This research did start in a research lab. It’s called Genealogy by Genetics who started work over ten years ago with FamilyTree DNA. The lab’s results proved valid and conclusive and attracted Spencer Wells and National Geographic. We’re real science, believe me. We’ve been doing this genetics for a long time and have proven it outside the project. Now we’re taking it to another level ;) Oh, and $100 is a steal… it can go for over $200 with other companies!
