I’m doing a 50 mile ride in October to support cancer research. I know money can be tight these days, but if you can spare even $1, just click on the link below and follow the instructions. It’s really easy and you can pay by credit card or check.
Without getting into too many details, my own family has been touched by cancer and I know that many of you can relate through the experiences of your own family. So if you’re like me and have probably waited too long to help out a good cause, here’s your chance to do it.
Update: Some people have had trouble figuring out credit card donations… the trick is to click on the link and scroll all the way down to the bottom.
Update 8/3/05: Looks like I aimed a bit low. I had originally planned to bring together $500 for the cause but it appears that you all helped me reach that goal within a week of posting. A big thanks to all of you that took the time to donate even a single dollar. I’m now going to raise the bar and see if I can pull $1000 together by September 23. Do me a favor and pass this around to your friends, family, coworkers… even if they can’t help me, I’m sure they know someone who can.
The NY Times has this article about Bollywood actresses and the ever decreasing standards for their behavior in the movies.
I grew up watching indian movies. I’d hate to see them reduced to point where the quality of the movie is inversely proportional to the amount of clothing that the lead actress wears.
As the NY Times says:
Whether girlfriend, wife or mother, she is the repository of Indian moral values.
Let’s try to keep it that way.
Put up a link on the blogroll for PostSecret.
In a nutshell, you put your thoughts on a postcard and anonymously send it to the webmaster who posts it up for the world to see. Some of the cards are quite disturbing but then intriguing in their own way.
Check it out.
I have a bad habit of not checking my voicemail for weeks at a time. It’s not that I don’t care. Actually, maybe I really don’t care but I’m not going to admit that.
It’s a bit funny actually- I rarely pick up my phone anymore but then again, I feel naked if I forget it at home.
At first I felt bad… but knowing that someone else has the same problem doesn’t make me feel so bad after all.
I’m such a Trekkie. Although my favorite has always been The Next Generation, the original show rocked.
Scotty was one of the many characters throughout the series that I “looked up” to as a kid. I’m sure that my choice of college major has been, even in some remote, miniscule way, influenced by him as well.
Anyways, it’s sad to see him go. Rest in peace Scotty.

I almost forgot how cool the Urban Dictionary is.
Where else can you find definitions for meh and cool beans and thousands of obscure sexual practices of varying degrees of debauchery? But damn if Urban Dictionary isn’t entertaining, and it meets a need just as neatly as Wikipedia does.
Let’s go people, let’s see some usage. I want good, meaningful sentences.
The Washington Post has an interesting article about a new way to help emergency personnel call your loved ones in case you’re incapacitated.
Sounds useful to me, considering my bike accident a few days ago.
…that there are those that have gone down and those that will go down.
I’m glad to say that I got my first fall of my road bike today and it really wasn’t so bad after all.
Jack, Tommy, Mark and I went out for a ride this morning. As you probably know, it rained like hell last night and we figured it would be generally dry out there if we went looking for some new roads.
About 20 miles later, we found the W&OD trail near the intersection of Rt. 9 and Rt. 7 near Purcellville and decided to take that route home. As we came around the first corner, I failed to slow down enough and ended up letting my front wheel slide over a bit wide onto the yellow line that seperated the the two-way traffic on the trail. Man, that stuff is slick when it’s wet. I went down faster than I could comprehend.
Anyways… good thing I was wearing a helmet and sunglasses. Without them, I probably wouldn’t have been so lucky. Notice the indentation that one of the rocks left on my helmet. Other than that, a few bruises on my right shoulder, a banged up right knee and a bruised ego is all I got. Pretty sweet.
Hint: look near my thumb:
Good thing I was out there with the fellas to make sure I was OK and help me get my bike looked over for the 20 mile ride home. After that, the ride home was pretty damn quick. I’m not sure what drove us to going so fast, but it sure was fun.
Update: The only real damage to the bike was fixed with a $14.99 part from the local bike shop. Sweet. I thought it was going to be much worse when I saw the rear derailleur all bent out of shape. As for me, I’m all good to go.
Looks like my friend Bobby finally setup a blog of his own.
Check it out but beware the music that automatically loads up when you go to the site…. that is so 90’s!
